Smart Eye began with a dream – literally.
One Sunday morning in 1999, Mats Krantz woke up and called his son Martin. He had dreamed that his wife, whose frozen shoulder made using a computer mouse painful, was controlling it with her eyes instead. When she looked, the cursor moved. When she blinked, it clicked. Martin was a recent engineering graduate. He looked into whether it could be done, and concluded that it would be very difficult. But very possible. That summer, he quit his job and founded Smart Eye.

iMotions has built a leading platform for human-behavior research, synchronizing data from more than 50 sensors — eye tracking, facial expressions, sweat gland activity, brain activity, and more — in real time.
Affectiva pioneered emotion recognition AI (Emotion AI), helping organizations understand how people engage with their content, products, and services across automotive, media and entertainment, and market research.
Sightic develops software for the real-time detection of alcohol and drug impairment, extending Smart Eye’s human understanding into safety-critical settings.

Executive Management Team
Martin co-founded Smart Eye with his father in 1999 and has been CEO ever since. He holds a Master of Science in Engineering Physics from Chalmers University of Technology. He remains the person who’s been here since day one.
Mats joined as interim CFO in 2022 and took the role permanently in 2023, bringing over 30 years of finance experience across Telia, Ericsson, Getinge, and BNP Paribas Cardif. He studied Accounting, Finance & IT at Jönköping University. He’s a seasoned sailor with plans to cross the Atlantic by boat one day.
Peter founded and leads iMotions, the hardware-agnostic platform that lets researchers combine eye tracking, biosensors, and traditional methods to understand what people think and feel. He holds a degree from Copenhagen Business School and completed the Advanced Management Program at MIT Sloan. When he’s not helping researchers track heartbeats, he keeps a beat of his own on the drums.
Anders joined Smart Eye in 2025 from Aros Electronics, where he was Business Director. He holds a Master of Science in Mechatronics from Chalmers University of Technology.
Solmaz has been with Smart Eye since 2009 and leads Applied AI. She holds a Master of Science in Software Engineering & Technology from Chalmers University of Technology. She’s a dedicated swimmer, known to jump into the ocean at the more unconventional times of year.
Martin joined in 2000, shortly after Smart Eye launched, and now leads technology as CTO. He holds a Master of Science in Computer Engineering from Chalmers University of Technology. He’s close to unbeatable at Trivial Pursuit.
Henrik joined Smart Eye in 2017 from Volvo Car Corporation, where he was a Technical Expert in Remote Sensing. He holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Chalmers University of Technology.
Detlef leads innovation and strategic partnerships, drawing on 25+ years in automotive technology — most recently at Aptiv and Delphi, where he focused on Interior Sensing — and as Chairman of the CLEPA Mirror Group for Euro NCAP Occupant Status Monitoring. He holds an Electrical Engineering degree and is a trained pilot, cleared to fly planes with up to six passengers.
